World Trade Centre business club signs up number one

The Humber region is becoming an increasingly attractive place to do business says the first member of World Trade Centre Hull & Humber’s business club.
Ken Sturdy, managing director of IT@Spectrum, has joined before the official launch of the scheme today.
His membership means that his company is one of more than 750,000 businesses worldwide that are part of the World Trade Centers Association network.
The launch of the club coincides with the first official tour this morning, when regional business people heard from World Trade Centre Hull & Humber partners, UK Trade and Investment, University of Hull and Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce on how it will enable local and UK-based companies to compete more effectively internationally.
IT@Spectrum , which employs 40 people in Hull and supplies multifunctional office devices, is celebrating 25 years in business and was a winner at the recent Humber Education Business Partnership Awards.
Mr Sturdy said: “Although we don’t trade internationally at the moment, the centre is still a very valuable resource for our company.
“We are taking advantage of the conference and meeting facilities for team strategy meetings. It’s good to get people out of their normal everyday environment if you want to stimulate creative thinking.
“I can honestly say that it’s the best venue we’ve ever come across in the Humber region.”
The World Trade Centre Hull & Humber business club offers significant discounts to members on the centre’s state of the art facilities and exclusive use of the business lounge. In addition, members have access to more than 300 World Trade Centres globally and all the associated businesses.
Andy Mowbray, manager of World Trade Centre Hull & Humber said: “These are exclusive facilities without an exclusive price tag, created to benefit businesses of all sizes and ultimately boost the region’s economy.
“Annual membership costs only £150 and we are offering special introductory rates so that it is an attractive proposition to the majority of companies.”
Mr Sturdy said that IT@Spectrum was currently exploring the possibilities of trading internationally.
“We are increasingly dealing with businesses in the Humber region that have overseas offices and are looking at economies of scale. Naturally, we want to be in the position to compete for this European business.
“With the services of the World Trade Centre to guide us, we feel we are in a strong position to take this step.
“As Hull develops with initiatives such as the World Trade Centre and top quality business developments like Humber Quays, more and more businesses are looking at basing themselves here as they see the region as a gateway to Europe. I believe it’s all starting to come together.”
