As more major offshore wind turbine companies establish in the UK, now is the time for businesses to consider how to enter the industry’s supply chain. With Siemens submitting their planning application to build wind turbines on Hull’s Alexandra Dock it is clear the Humber will be at the centre of this high growth industry.

Established Hull based ship repairer and build, Mobile Marine Services, will launch their plan to manufacture and crew offshore wind support vessels at Hull's Alexandra Dock.  The launch event will include a model of the proposed vessel, opportunity to discuss the design and a briefing about the businesses plans. 

MMS Ship Repair will be the first company on the Humber estuary to construct and run boats that will transfer technicians and equipment to the wind turbines.  Capable of carrying 12 passengers, the vessels would be able to run a “shuttle service” between the shore and the sites where hundreds of turbines are to be installed.

The multi-million pound project will see as many as six vessels, up to 24 metres in length, built by MMS – with the first ready for operation within a year.  The design of the vessels is to be unveiled at a special event at the World Trade Centre Hull & Humber on February 21st, 4pm - 5.30pm.

The trade mission and civic party will set off on P&O ferries at 5pm on Tuesday March 27 and will arrive back in Hull on March 30.

Hull City Council representatives and Humber businesses will visit Rotterdam to explore business links including meeting with the Rotterdam Port Authority, visit to and tour of Stadshavens Port Development Area, the economic hub where the port and city meet, as well as a day kept free for business to business meetings.

A June ‘trade mission to Brazil’, which has the world’s second fastest growing economy, is to be led by Team Humber Marine Alliance, World Trade Centre Hull & Humber and UK Trade & Investment.

Why Brazil…
Brazil has leapfrogged the UK to become the world’s fifth biggest economy and  is enjoying unprecedented growth at a time when a lot of the world is in recession. But there is a massive skills shortage and high demand for training.

Oil and gas finds are fuelling Brazil’s development, creating a step change in the economy. General upgrade in infrastructure is taking place for the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games two years later.

The mission will be to Recife, the country’s fourth biggest city, leaving on Saturday June 16th  and back in England the following Friday.

The 43rd Annual WTCA General Assembly will be held in Moscow, Russia from 22nd to 26th September.

This years theme will be World Trade Centres as engines of innovation.
